Water district appoints new representative to SDCWA

SAN MARCOS — After recently voting to reorganize and name board members Jim Poltl as president and Darrell Gentry as vice president for 2011, Margaret E. Ferguson was appointed to the critical position of serving as the Vallecitos Water District’s representative to the San Diego County Water Authority, or SDCWA.
Vallecitos imports 100 percent of its water from the SDCWA. As a member of the SDCWA board, Ferguson will not only play a role in making business decisions that affect Vallecitos customers, but also water agency customers located throughout the entire county.
With more than 33 years as a director, Ferguson is the longest serving member on the Vallecitos Board. The Division 4 representative was first elected in 1978, and her current term expires in 2012. A retired real estate broker and planning and land use consultant who owned her own business for 20 years, Ferguson was the first San Marcos city clerk and former member of the San Diego County Planning Commission. She is past Vallecitos representative for the San Diego County Water Authority where she chaired the Engineering and Operations Committee and is a former delegate to the Encina Wastewater Authority, including past chairperson.
Ferguson is a past member of the San Marcos Creek Task Force, past member of the Association of California Water Agencies Board, past member of the ACWA Region 10 Board and the National Water Resources Association.
She has served on all Vallecitos committees and most recently was board president for 2010. She is also the past president and current member of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. She lives in Lake San Marcos.
