COAST CITIES — Oceanside, Encinitas and Vista were among the communities that received Healthy Communities grants from the San Diego Association of Governments.
Grants went to the city of Encinitas for adding a Public Health Element to the city’s General Plan. Oceanside’s is for updating the Crown Heights/Eastside Neighborhood revitalization plan. In Vista, it will go toward implementing the “Healthy Vista” in the city’s 2030 General Plan update.
Additional Safe Routes to School grants were awarded, as well. In Vista, it will develop Safe Routes to Schools plans for six schools in Vista Unified School District. In
Oceanside, it will expand the city’s Bicycle Rodeo program to six additional elementary schools.
The SANDAG Board voted March 25 to issue 24 individual grants ranging from $9,650 to $75,000 to school districts, nonprofit organizations, tribal governments and local government agencies. SANDAG received the source funding from the county of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, which is implementing Healthy WorksSM under the Communities Putting Prevention to Work program created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
