“American Idol” star has local beginnings

ENCINITAS — As he roars toward the final showdown, “American Idol” contestant Adam Lambert has a special cheering section pulling for him. Lambert, who grew up in North County, is a former student of Encinitas-based California Music Studios. Lambert got his early vocal training from Lynne Broyles, and Jennifer Paterson, the owner and founder of California Music Studios.
“Adam was a terrific student at the age of 13 with a great flair for entertaining and a truly unique and beautiful voice,” Paterson said. “We knew he would be a huge success. He excelled at Broadway and pop and was totally committed to whatever role he was working on.”
Paterson founded California Music Studios 23 years ago and has expanded to offer private music lessons throughout Southern California. She earned her master’s degree in both voice and piano from Boston University, and has also studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and the University of British Columbia, and was also principal soprano for the Boston Lyric Opera Company.
