College earns CAPE award

SAN MARCOS — Cal State San Marcos has been recognized at the Challenge Level with a California Awards for Performance Excellence, or CAPE, Award from the California Council for Excellence. Cal State San Marcos is among only one other institution in the California State University system to ever earn a CAPE award and the only university honored this year.
The CAPE Program, administered by the CCE, emulates the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and is the highest recognition in the state for performance excellence. The CAPE Program, employing the same rigorous criteria used on the national level, recognizes organizations that demonstrate continuous improvement and superior performance in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement/knowledge management, human resources, process management and business results.
“This award acknowledges the diligence, hard work and accountability being performed in our division of Finance and Administrative Services,” college President Karen Haynes said. “Performance excellence has become imbedded into our campus culture and this is just the beginning.”
