CARLSBAD — Results from the 28th annual Carlsbad Triathlon are officially in from the city of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department. The July 12 race at Tamarack Beach in Carlsbad had nearly 1,200 participants in 30 divisions ranging in age from 14 to 86.
Finishing in first place at the 2009 Carlsbad Triathlon in the Elite Men’s Division was Cam Hills of Fountain Hills, Ariz. Finishing in first place in the Elite Women’s division was local Kate Major of Encinitas.
“I wanted to go out, have fun and kill myself at the same time,” Major said.
The oldest athlete, Bill Bell, 86, of Indian Wells, returned once again this year.
Unofficial Elite Division results from the Carlsbad Triathlon include in the elite men’s division Cam Hill (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) 1:09:17; Thomas Taylor (Phoenix, Ariz.) 1:10:43; Juliano Teruel (San Diego) 1:11:32; Daniel Vertiz (San Antonio, Texas) 1:12:25; and Kyle Hughes (Lake Forest) 1:12:32. In the elite women’s division, the winners were Kate Major (Encinitas) 1:14:31; Jessi Stensland (San Diego) 1:16:05; Tatiana Vertiz (Encinitas) 1:20:22; and Misako Win (Carlsbad) 1:20:50.
