‘GRINCH’ CAST

Iris Manter of Solana Beach is making her professional theatre debut as Cindy-Lou Who in The Old Globe’s “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at Balboa Park. She will be in around 40 performances beginning this November and will light the San Diego Christmas Tree in Balboa Park on Nov. 12 with the Grinch.

BUSINESS AWARD 

State Sen. Catherine Blakespear (D-Encinitas) has recognized The Plot, an Oceanside vegan restaurant known for its sustainability practices, as the Senate District 38 Small Business of the Year. 

‘DEAL’ MAKERS 

Two Oceanside residents, Emily Reed and Julie Montoya, will be on CBS’ “Let’s Make a Deal” in early November. Reed’s episode airs Nov. 1 and Montoya’s airs on Nov. 2. 

RIGHT ‘PRICE’

Brian Yammine of Encinitas will appear on “The Price Is Right” game show on Nov. 8. 

DEAN’S LIST 

Ethan Pereira of Carlsbad made the summer dean’s list at Kettering University in Michigan.

HONOR ROLL 

The Escondido Union High School District has earned a place on the College Board’s AP School Honor Roll for the 2022-2023 school year, with Escondido High School selected as a Silver school and San Pasqual High School selected as a Bronze School. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done “outstanding work” to welcome more students into AP Courses and support them on their path to college.

NEW STUDENTS 

Biola University has welcomed the following local residents as new students this fall: Jordan Chan of San Marcos; George Horton and Isabelle Smith of Encinitas; Christopher Gruytch and Joelle Lee of Oceanside; and Enya Hamman, Joseph Mineiro, Sierra Palm and Becca Petty of Carlsbad. 

HISPANIC HERITAGE 

Aviation Maintenance Administrationman First Class Veronica Lennox of Escondido spoke on diversity, describing Hispanic culture as one instrument in a symphony, during a Hispanic Heritage Month observance on the mess decks aboard USS Boxer on Oct. 10. 

TENNIS TITLES 

Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva captured her fourth career singles title and third in doubles during her first year on the ITF World Tennis Tour circuit at the third annual TaliMar Rancho Santa Fe Open on Oct. 15. 

WOMEN’S SOCCER 

The Cal State San Marcos women’s soccer team moved its unbeaten streak to seven games, its longest in the NCAA Division II era from 2015 to present following its 2-0 victory over San Francisco State on Oct. 15.
