When the circus came to town

OCEANSIDE — The American Crown Circus set up its tent on Mission Avenue from March 10 to March 14. The acrobatic circus held two to three shows a day with clowns, balancing acts, a low wire walk, hula hoop tricks and a magic show.
“It gives people an hour and a half to forget their problems,” Robert Osorio, ringmaster and owner said. “They have a moment with their families and are kids again.”
The small tent circus seats 250 spectators who all get an up-close seat to performances. “You can see the expressions on performers’ faces,” Osorio said. “It’s really up close and personal.”
There is also plenty of audience participation when Luigi the clown takes the stage. Audience members are called on to toss rings, stand between flying juggling pins and pose for humorous photos.
The American Crown Circus is based in Las Vegas, Nev. It travels from February to late November with stops in California, Arizona, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico.
The circus crew consists of 12 performers, most of whom are members of the Osorio family.
“It’s the fourth generation in our family,” Osorio said. “It’s generation, after generation, after generation, after generation.”
“It’s the best career I ever had,” Osorio added.
