Volunteers sought for Solana Beach, Del Mar committees

COAST CITIES — Volunteers are needed for several committees in Del Mar and Solana Beach. 

Del Mar has two vacancies on its Design Review Board and one each on the Finance Committee and Traffic and Parking Advisory Committee.

The DRB is charged with preserving and improving the scenic amenities of Del Mar and protecting the city’s natural environment, scenic vistas and overall aesthetic quality.

Applicants must have experience, training, education or past or present employment in developing the aesthetics of environmental design.

Board members serve four-year terms and meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

The Finance Committee reviews the city’s investment policy, annual budget, quarterly financial reports and annual audited financial statements.

Applicants must be well-versed in financial matters. Terms are for three years on this nine-member board.

The five-member Traffic and Parking Advisory Committee seeks to improve the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists by reviewing issues such as speeding, recurring regulatory violations, traffic congestion and parking problems.

Finance and TPAC meet once a month on Tuesday evenings.

All applicants must file a financial disclosure statement and be registered voters in the city, although one Finance Committee member can be a nonresident.

The application deadline is Dec. 28. Forms and additional information and requirements are available at City Hall or on the website at delmar.ca.us.

Solana Beach has upcoming vacancies on all five of its citizen commissions.

Three volunteers are needed on Budget and Finance, which provides input to council members regarding the city’s operating budget. Members meet at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month. All terms expire in January 2015.

The Parks and Recreation Commission has four two-year positions available. This group reviews certain matters regarding the city’s parks and programs. Members also conduct some city events.

Meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month.

Members of the Public Arts Advisory Commission review matters regarding community art opportunities and conduct certain city events. They meet at 4:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. Three positions that expire in January 2012 are available.

Five volunteers are needed on the Public Safety Commission, which reviews crime and traffic safety measures. Four vacancies are for two-year terms and one expires in January 2014. Members meet at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.

The View Assessment Commission reviews feasible solutions for development when an assessment request is filed and makes definitive decisions on projects using the city’s adopted guidelines and tool kit.

Three members are needed to serve until January 2015 and one volunteer is sought for a one-year term. Meetings are at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.
