Vallecitos swears in incumbents

SAN MARCOS — Incumbents Margaret E. “Betty” Ferguson, Darrell Gentry, and Timothy Shell were sworn in for new terms with the Vallecitos Water District board of directors. Running uncontested during general election this fall, they will continue to assist in setting district policy and direction through 2012.
Betty Ferguson, Division 4 representative, was first elected in 1978 and is the senior member of the board. A retired real estate broker and planning and land use consultant who owned her own business for 20 years, Ferguson was the first San Marcos City Clerk and former member of the San Diego County Planning Commission. She is the district’s representative for the San Diego County Water Authority, currently serving as chair of the Engineering and Operations Committee, and is a former delegate on the Encina Wastewater Authority. Ferguson lives in Lake San Marcos.
Darrell Gentry, Division 5 representative, is a former city councilman and Planning Commissioner for the city of San Marcos. First elected to the Vallecitos Board in December 2004, his posts with the district include current director of Encina Wastewater Authority, member of ACWA Region 10 Board and Board Member of Southern California Water Committee. Along with contributing to the water district board, his community service includes background as president of the Panorama Teen & Family Resource Center Board, chair and past president of the San Marcos KenDucky Derby Committee, member of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce Board, co-chair of the San Marcos Holiday Parade Committee and current member of the San Marcos Economic Development Corp. Gentry lives in San Marcos.
Timothy Shell, Division 1 representative, was first elected to the board in December 2004. Shell is a registered professional engineer, earning experience in the water industry during his seven years of employment at the San Diego County Water Authority. He is currently employed as a principal engineer with the city of Vista, where he was honored with the Manager’s Award of Excellence. Shell has served as a member of the District Finance/Investment and Public Awareness/Personnel/Policy Committees, District Representative to the California Association of Sanitation Agencies, and Western Coalition of Arid States. Shell lives in the Escondido Country Club area.
The board meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Vallecitos Water District Administrative, Operations, and Maintenance Facility, at 201 Vallecitos de Oro in San Marcos.
