OCEANSIDE — More than a dozen tots showed up in pajamas and slippers for Teddy Bear Pajama Storytime at the Mission Branch Library on Jan. 24. Even the librarian had her pajamas on for an evening of stories, songs, crafts and snacks.
Storytime is traditionally held during the day, but occasionally a nighttime story hour is held so working parents can also attend with their tots.
“It’s something special,” Maggie Town, children’s librarian, said. “Kids feel special bringing their stuffed animals.”
The Teddy Bear Pajama Storytime brought new faces and library regulars to the Mission Branch Library. “We try to come to as many library things as we can,” Jennifer Zelles, of Oceanside, said.
Rita Lavasanipour, of Oceanside, said she brings her sons Kai, 3, and Cyrus, 4, once or twice a week.
Stories were read, told and sung together at Teddy Bear Pajama Storytime. During other story hours flannel boards help tell the story.
“Switching it up keeps the attention of the little one,” Town said. “I ask questions or have them count things to hold their attention.”
The Civic Center Library holds Sunshine Storytime on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., for 3- to 6- year-olds, and Toddlertime on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., for 2- and 3-year-olds. On Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Cuentos Para Ninos shares stories in Spanish for children age 2 to 5.
The Mission Branch Library holds Baby Start Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. for babies 3 to 24 months, and Sunshine Storytime on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers age 3 to 6.
