SAN DIEGO — The Society of Professional Journalists San Diego Pro Chapter awarded The Coast News’ freelance writer Christina Macone-Greene with three awards for her reporting efforts during the 2012 Journalism Awards at the Bali Hai Restaurant in San Diego.
She earned first place honors in the “Non-Daily Reporting and Writing, Arts & Entertainment Story” category for her work on the documentary team that featured the San Diego-based medical team Med4Nicaragua, which performed 33 surgical procedures in Managua.
In addition, her honors included first place in the “Non-Daily Reporting and Writing, Mulitcultural Story” category for her work on the story, “Dance group overcomes adversity, prevails with passion,” which highlighted the efforts of Carlsbad High School students to keep their MEChA dance program intact, despite not having a school advisor to represent them.
She also received honorable mention for her work on the story, “Community garden advocates fight back.”
