SAN MARCOS — At nearly 11 p.m. May 5, on a school night, an emergency call was made to deputies from a doughnut shop at 1240 E. Mission Road when a teenager armed with a knife tried to rob the place, according to authorities.
Dispatchers answered a 9-1-1 call from a clerk at the Yum Yum Donuts shop and heard a male voice say that someone was trying to rob him, authorities said.
They also heard commotion in the background.
After police responded, they found the male clerk wrestling with a white male juvenile subject who had been unsuccessful in his attempt to open the cash register.
The 14-year-old boy was arrested for attempted armed robbery, and booked into a juvenile detention facility.
The clerk told police that the boy had entered the shop, armed with a knife, hopped the counter and said he was going to take the money.
The employee was able to disarm the teenager and hold him down until deputies arrived, according to Sgt. Dan Lopez, of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Lopez, the suspect stated to deputies that he was robbing the donut shop because he owed a debt to an acquaintance.
