CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA — Millions of dollars have been spent on local beach replenishment projects.
OCEANSIDE — A series of City Council meetings and special meetings pushed through a 3-1 vote on Dec. 12 to allow council members to initiate appointments and recalls of city representatives to regional appointments, which includes the SANDAG Board.
OCEANSIDE — City Council gave first approval to an ordinance amendment that will allow council members to nominate or make a motion to remove fellow council members on regional boards or commissions in a 3-2 vote Dec. 5.
OCEANSIDE — “It’s not over yet,” Mayor Jim Wood said, after a 3-2 City Council vote on Nov. 28 pushed forward the motion to draft a city ordinance to allow council members to nominate or make a motion to remove an individual from any regional board or commission.
DEL MAR — City Council recently opted to possibly reclassify portions of the central and north commercial zones in an effort to meet state-mandated housing requirements.
COAST CITIES — As work on one project to replenish sand on county beaches begins to wind down, Solana Beach City Council authorized staff at the Nov. 14 meeting to move forward with a more ambitious, long-term plan to reduce coastal erosion from storm damage predicted to occur during a 50-year period.
COAST CITIES — Work to place sand on area beaches was scheduled to resume Nov. 15, but in Carlsbad rather than Solana Beach, where an explosion that caused minor damage and no injuries suspended the project earlier this month.
CARLSBAD — The city of Carlsbad was recently awarded with $1.25 million from the San Diego Association of Governments for its regional Active Transportation Grants.
COAST CITIES — In the first program of its kind, San Diego Surfrider will monitor how an influx of sand from a beach-replenishment project affects the waves at local surf spots.
