OCEANSIDE — The world’s largest female surfing event is returning to the Oceanside Pier while simultaneously celebrating 20 years of the festival surrounding the competition.
Each year, the Super Girl Surf Pro returns to the beaches south and north of the pier. The competition is not only the largest female surfing event in the world but also the only World Surf League WQS 4000 women’s event in the United States.
The event qualifies its top surfers for the Women’s Championship Tour.
Local North County competitors include Carlsbad surfer Reid Van Wagoner and Encinitas locals Ella McCaffray, Victoria Duprat, Maddie Stanton, Kaydn Persidok, Kaia Howard and Bryce Wettstein.
This year, the festival and competition return Aug. 21-23.
Accompanying the competition is the Super Girl Surf Festival, which features other events, including a longboard competition in partnership with the Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club; mentorship opportunities for young girls with professional surfers; skateboarding, inline and quad roller skating competitions; a DJ competition; beach soccer and volleyball; open swimming; fitness and wellness classes on the #GOALS Stage; panel discussions; food; and live music.
This year’s concert lineup includes B.o.B, Iration, Hippie Sabotage, K.Flay, Pearl, Hannah Wicklund, Anora, Hello Sister, RōZY, Trestles and Lucy Spotts.
Local North County musicians performing include Flailing Idiot, Go Scarlet, Mad Hunny, The Cherry Bombs, Hannah Geller, San Diego Brass and Electric and The Long View.
As it has for the past two decades, the festival remains free and open to the public all weekend.
