Students vote for favorite teachers

COAST CITIES — Several North County teachers and schools were honored in the “I’m Thankful for My Teacher” campaign, designed to give parents and children an opportunity to thank the teachers in their lives for their hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, support and willingness to go the extra mile for students and families throughout San Diego County.
Renee Robbins, a reading/language arts teacher at San Elijo Middle School in San Marcos, placed second in the Middle School category.
School Spirit award winners included Pacific Rim Elementary in Carlsbad, Rancho Buena Vista High School in Vista and Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts in Vista.
An Outstanding Teacher Dedication award went to Debra Cruse at Oak Crest Middle School in Encinitas.
The campaign, now in its second year, was sponsored by Mission Federal Credit Union, Junior Achievement and Cox Communications. Students sent in an impressive 7,345 thank you notes to 815 teachers at 152 different schools throughout San Diego.
The top six winners were given a $150 gift card. Additionally, the students in the classes of the winning teachers received a classroom party, or field trip of their choice, and the gift of Junior Achievement’s award-winning financial education curriculum taught in their classroom for an entire school year, funded by Mission Federal Credit Union. Mission Fed also rewarded the top six schools turning in the most thank you notes with $200 School Spirit Awards.
