COAST CITIES — The MiraCosta College Food Pantry seeks help with its second annual food drive.
With the downturn in the economy, the need for food assistance is greater than ever. In the first eight weeks of the fall semester, the number of students seeking help has more than doubled and current supplies are exhausted. The pantry, which opened two years ago, provides emergency food assistance for students in need and also refers them to community organizations that can be of further assistance.
Pantry organizers seek the following help from the community:
— Cash donations. A check can be sent to the MiraCosta College Foundation Office, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Please indicate that the check is for the MiraCosta Food Pantry.
— $5 grocery store gift cards. These are given to students who need to purchase milk, eggs and bread (distributed in $5 increments). Please send these to the Foundation Office as well.
For questions and other information on the MiraCosta College Food Pantry, contact Carol Wilkinson, (760) 795-6616 or e-mail her at [email protected].
