Seniors offered keys to good health

CARLSBAD — City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation, through partnership with Aging & Independence Services (a division of the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Service Agency), is presenting programs for a healthier you.
Healthier Living with Diabetes begins from 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 25, followed by individual consultations and group workshops that continue into April at the Senior Center, 799 Pine Ave. The program is covered by Medicare and participants must have a doctor’s referral to attend. Reservations are required for this free workshop, and must be made in advance by calling (858) 495-5500. For two weeks after the orientation, participants will meet with health and nutrition educators for individual consultations, and the group workshop will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon for six weeks on Fridays beginning March 18.
The Healthier Living with Diabetes program, developed by Stanford University, works to improve the health and well-being of people living with Type 2 Diabetes. The program consists of an orientation session, two individual consultations, and a six-week group workshop. Participants in this program will learn how to manage diabetes, learn how to eat better and stick to a healthy plan, and reduce fatigue, pain and worries.
The Carlsbad Senior Center is also offering a Healthy Heart seminar by physician Aboo Nasar from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Feb. 17 at the Senior Center, 799 Pine Ave. Nasar is board-certified in internal medicine, geriatrics and anti-aging medicine.
Nasar uses a holistic approach to a healthy heart, and he will connect the dots presenting practical solutions to combat this deadly disease and give vibrancy to our cardiovascular and spiritual health.
