DEL MAR — Volunteers are being sought for six of Del Mar’s eight citizen advisory committees.
There are currently two vacancies on the five-member Communications Technical Advisory Committee, which oversees Del Mar’s local public access television studio operated through a contract with Time Warner Cable. Committee members also review ordinances and policies to maintain local control over the city’s public rights of way and help protect residents from identity theft over wireless access systems.
The terms of two members will expire this month on the Design Review Board, which is charged with preserving and improving the scenic amenities of Del Mar and protecting the city’s natural environment, scenic vistas and overall aesthetic quality. The review process involves an evaluation of a structure’s placement and size, the materials and colors to be used, and in the case of a new structure, the type and extent of the proposed landscaping. The seven-member board meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month.
Allan Wegner’s term expired last month on the Energy Issues Advisory Committee, a five-member group established to promote clean and reliable energy and educate residents and businesses about energy savings programs.
There are two vacancies on the seven-member Finance Committee, which reviews the annual budget, quarterly financial reports, annual audited financial statements and city’s investment policy.
In December, Lee Haydu’s term will expire on the San Dieguito Lagoon Preservation Committee, which oversees the preservation and enhancement of the San Dieguito Lagoon on local and regional levels.
The Traffic and Parking Committee is seeking volunteers to fill three vacancies. This five-member group seeks to improve the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists by reviewing issues such as speeding, recurring regulatory violations, traffic congestion and parking problems.
The city is also seeking members for the ad hoc Fairgrounds Master Plan Committee. The environmental impact report for the fairgrounds was released last week. The city has 90 days to review and comment on the document. Committee members will support city staff in preparing a position and drafting a letter stating that position to the 22nd District Agricultural Association on the EIR and master plan. Because of the short review time, interested residents must apply before Oct. 26.
