RSF Education Foundation updates board

RANCHO SANTA FE — At a Rancho Santa Fe School District board meeting, the board of directors listened to a Rancho Santa Fe Education Foundation year-end update. Delivering the information was Barbara Edwards, development director for the foundation.

Edwards began serving this new position last summer and Superintendent Lindy Delaney commented how she was the perfect fit for the job.

“She’s been so wonderful,” Delaney said, referring to Edwards. “Next year, the Education Foundation will be giving us $1,459,745 — that’s the money we’re going to get, so that’s no small feat.”

For the current school year, the Education Foundation fulfilled its commitment of $1.3 million for the district.

Starting her presentation, Edwards began by saying how this was a “year of firsts” for the Education Foundation, including the first year of a brand-new organizational structure.

Edwards went on to say how it was also the first year that the endowment made a distribution to the district.

She also noted how the first half of her position was in a look, listen and learn mode.

Edwards noted that the endowment supports 33 events during the year — 22 of those were Foundation primary events while the remainder were district and/or shared events.

“Bottom line, we want to improve our execution with these 33 events,” she said.

According to Edwards, the second half of their year consisted of the introduction or re-introduction of certain initiatives with the Education Foundation, which included the implementation of a formal nominations process for its 14-member board.

As the Education Foundation moves forward, she said, they will continue to educate their community, especially in the area of pledge commitments.

“Those are valuable assets,” she said. “We are still $65,000 out on outstanding pledges that we need to collect.”

Edwards said it was their fiduciary responsibility to report their assets and liabilities accurately.

Looking ahead, Edwards said for any new ideas which come their way the decision making process will include assessing if that idea is good for the organization and if it will be sustainable.
