COAST CITIES — Members of the Del Sol Lions Club have placed 10 collection bins around Del Mar, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe for donors to recycle their used eye glasses as part of Lions Club International’s annual Recycling for Sight program.
The first bin for eye glass donations was placed on the receptionist counter at the Solana Beach City Hall, 635 S. Coast Highway 101. Once the collection bin is filled, host locations contact Lion Wally Oliver and Leo Robert Roberts who collect the eyeglasses and take them to regional project coordinator Alice Tana who oversees having volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses for reuse.
Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact. For more information on the Lions’ Recycling for Sight project or the Del Sol Lions Club, contact Charter Secretary Mary Jane Boyd at (858) 481-7547. The club meets the second Tuesday of every month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Ave., Solana Beach.
