Racetrack rocks its first week

DEL MAR — The first week at Del Mar ended on a high note, as both ticket sales and handle were up more than 10 percent as compared with 2008’s numbers. With attendance up 14.9 percent and the handle (traditionally measured daily as the sum wagered in all pools) up 12.3 percent, the five-day race week has been well received by fans. The momentum continues with a Common Sense concert Aug. 14 and the first Beer Fest of 2009, followed by a Flaming Lips concert Aug. 15.
Family Sunday will be held Aug. 16 and every Sunday all season long. Family Sundays provides a fun-filled atmosphere for the track’s youngest fans. Enjoy carnival games, face painting, and pony rides, all without missing a race.
Racing at Del Mar is held Wednesday through Sunday, with post time for the first race at 2 p.m. On Fridays first post is at 3 p.m. For more information, call (858) 755-1141 or visit www.DelMarScene.com.
