CARLSBAD — Carlsbad Police Department honored 160 special volunteers May 5, representing six groups.
The six groups of volunteers recognized included senior volunteer patrol members, station volunteers, reserve officers, juvenile justice panel members, explorers and chaplains.
Carlsbad police volunteers contributed more than 21,000 hours of service in 2010. This is equivalent to almost 10 full-time employees and an estimated value of $429,000.
Police volunteers work in a variety of areas including neighborhood watch and a variety of divisions such as investigations, traffic, fingerprinting, administration and police records.
