SAN MARCOS — Luis Rodriguez will read poetry from his 1993 memoir, “Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.,” at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in Room 113 of the Clarke Field House at Cal State San Marcos, 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Rd. Offered as part of the university’s arts and lectures series, the event is free and open to the public.
Rodriguez wrote the memoir, his best known work, as a cautionary tale for his then 15-year-old son who had joined a Chicago gang. The memoir became an international best seller and won the Carl Sandburg Literary Award and the Chicago Sun-Times Book Award. His poetry has won a Poetry Center Book Award, a PEN Josephine Miles Literary Award, and “Foreward” magazine’s Silver Book Award.
