DEL MAR — More than 6,800 people, including 1,500 families, 3,000 children and 300 seniors will receive holiday gifts and food during the 37th annual Holiday Baskets from the Community Resource Center (CRC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the hungry, homeless and hurting in North County San Diego.
This free “shopping extravaganza,” managed and implemented by more than 2,000 volunteers, will take place over three days, Dec. 13 to Dec. 15, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The event gives struggling families the opportunity to select items they need this holiday season, including coats, blankets, books, infant items, bikes, toys, and a 50-pound box of food with a full holiday meal and all the staples to feed a family for two weeks.
The community can help by hosting a donation drive, making a donation towards Holiday Baskets or joining CRC at Jingle & Mingle, a fundraiser Dec. 10 with a preview of Holiday Baskets. Learn more at crcncc.org/holidaybaskets or text HOLIDAY to 71777.
The Volunteer Set-up at the Del Mar Fairgrounds will be from Dec. 7 to Dec. 13. Volunteers will be setting up the grandstand for the Holiday Baskets give-away. Volunteers will be on site sorting donations, assembling and fixing bicycles and more.
