COAST CITIES — In 2001, San Marcos residents Patty Waite and her husband left their jobs, sold their dream home and worldly possessions and headed out in their motor home in search of natural beauty.
A sampling of photographs of some of the remote areas they discovered in the last few years will be on display May 1 and will continue through May at the 2Spoons Café, 3829 Plaza Dr. in Oceanside. An artist’s reception will be held May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Waites found that by avoiding the usual tourist traps and exploring the more remote locations of the country, there was much waiting to be discovered. Waite started documenting some of these treasures through both photography and poetry and the end result was “Nomadic Notebook,” a multi-media presentation involving photography, poetry, music and inspirational quotes.
Since returning to live in Vista, from what turned out to be a yearlong journey, the Waites have continued to search out the less-traveled areas of both California and the Western states.
“Before a trip, we take out the atlas and search for parks and areas that we haven’t heard of before, then head out to investigate them,” she said. “Most of our exploring is done on foot, with my camera equipment on my back and Muffin, our cocker spaniel, in tow. It’s been quite an adventure.”
