SOLANA BEACH — Billed as the world’s toughest gourmet walk, the third annual Super Tasty 5K Taste of Solana Beach will be served up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the distillery parking lot on South Sierra Avenue Sept. 6.
Samples will be provided by about 20 restaurants along Coast Highway 101 and Cedros Avenue, including Crush, Carruth Cellars, California Pizza Kitchen, The Curious Fork, Wild Note Café, San Diego BeerWorks and Temecula Olive Oil Company, to name a few.
The event is a fundraiser for Promises2Kids, a San Diego nonprofit formerly known as the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation that helps approximately 5,000 foster children each year through a variety of programs.
Participants will receive a T-shirt and be entered into a raffle to win gift certificates and other prizes.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for those younger than 18. Family packages for two adults and two children are available for $95.
With organizing help from the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Super Tasty 5K is held in partnership with the Giro di San Diego Gran Fondo.
A gran fondo, which means “big ride” in Italian, is a one-day, long distance bike ride for all levels of cyclists with courses that run through scenic mountainous courses.
The Solana Beach event kicks off with a bike expo Sept. 6 and concludes the following day with the cycling portion that features three mass-start road cycling routes and two mountain bike routes ranging from 38 to 105 miles.
The Giro di San Diego Gran Fondo will donate $5 of every registration, along with all online donations and additional funds raised by participants, to Promises2Kids.
Promises2Kids will also receive $5 from every Super Tasty 5K ticket sold.
“It’s a noncompetitive 5K, but we like to keep it interesting,” Giro organizer Carrie Panek said. “There are awards for the top fundraising team, best individual costume and best team theme costume.”
