Party to celebrate pot-free living

VISTA — “420 Remix — A Celebration of Sober and Drug Free Life Choices” will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. April 20, at 1525 W. Vista Way. The purpose of the event is to provide an alternative activity for students to counter the pro-marijuana influences common on April 20, the unofficial pot smoking holiday. Most teens are familiar with the popular marijuana reference of 4/20 (pronounces “four twenty”), but most parents are not.
More San Diego County youth enter treatment programs for marijuana use than for all other drugs combined, yet less than half of parents are aware of their child’s drug use. Youth believe marijuana is less harmful than either alcohol or cigarettes. By the time they are high school juniors, approximately 36 percent of teens have tried marijuana, and 15 percent report using it in the past month, according to a San Diego County Healthy Kids survey.
For 15 years, the North Coastal Prevention Coalition, or NCPC, has worked to give families and youth the opportunity to grow in a drug and alcohol-free environment. Call (760) 407-1220, ext. 174 or visit www.northcoastalpreventioncoalition.org to learn more.
