Escondido resident Briana Heck and Buddy compete in the Child’s Cutest Dog contest during the 14th annual Ugly Dog Contest held March 8 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. As promised, the contest featured a few fairly ugly pooches, but their attractive canine counterparts were encouraged to participate as well. Dogs competed in various categories, including Adult’s Cutest Dog, Dog Who Looks Most Like its Owner, Best Trick, Best Mutt, and Most Unusual Markings. Chomper, a drooling mutt with a two-tone tongue, took the Ugly Dog grand prize.
