DEL MAR — The Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) is bringing exhibitions and programs into the community, establishing satellite venues and forming partnerships with key local arts groups. Its first satellite venue will open with a reception 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 5 at the Herb Turner Galleries at Southfair, 2010 Jimmy Durante Blvd.“The Unerring Eye: Paintings by Herb Turner and Photographs by Helen Montgomery-Drysdale” will run through Jan. 12, 2014. In a series of display cases, OMA will mount an exhibition that presents the work of these two Del Mar artists, and their impact on the cultural community of San Diego and beyond. Both Turner and Drysdale were consummate readers of their surrounding environment, and were able to translate their interests through the varied mediums of painting and photography. The exhibition will present approximately 12 paintings by Herb Turner and 36 photographs by Helen Montgomery-Drysdale.
OMA will also present quarterly art exhibitions, receptions, educational programs, and events frequently highlighting the adult and youth art talent in the local and regional area. The museum thanked County Supervisor Dave Roberts for his support of this project.
Artist, architect, sculptor and Del Mar community activist, Turner (1926-2010) had a deep ecological sensibility that he translated through his poignant paintings, and sustainable architecture.
Montgomery-Drysdale, photographer, moved to the West Coast at the age of 28 to establish her own public relations firm in La ]olla, enjoying a five season long career at the famed La Jolla Playhouse, where she became director of advertising and public relations. Her 60-year photographic career was devoted exclusively to the “unerring eye” of black and white photography.
