In loving memory of Benjamin “Buddy” Adams
Benjamin “Buddy” Adams, 78, caught his final wave and paddled beyond the horizon, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and saltwater adventures.
Born in Brawley, California, Buddy spent his early years in the Imperial Valley before moving to Oceanside at the age of 15.
It was there that he found his true home by the ocean, developing a deep connection to the water that would remain with him throughout his life.
Buddy was happiest when he was on the sea. An avid surfer and passionate outrigger canoe paddler, he embraced the beauty, challenge, and camaraderie of ocean life.
Whether catching waves, paddling with friends, or simply enjoying a sunset along the shoreline, Buddy found joy and peace in the rhythms of the Pacific.
Known for his easygoing spirit, friendly hellos from his porch chair, and love of the ocean, Buddy touched the lives of many people over the years.
His friendship, stories, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
We will miss his “better all the time” greetings, his stories and his news updates.
Though he leaves behind no immediate family, Buddy’s legacy lives on in the countless friends, fellow paddlers, surfers, and members of the Oceanside whose lives he enriched through his kindness and companionship.
Those who loved Buddy take comfort in imagining him where he’d want to be: in calm waters, with a perfect swell on the horizon, no crowds, and no need to paddle back in.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Buddy’s memory by making a donation to your favorite local charity and perhaps spend a little time outdoors enjoying the ocean, a sunset, or simply the company of good friends.
A paddle out in Buddy’s honor will be scheduled at some point in the near future and is being organized by Dave Hanson at 760.822.4485.
