A 30-foot stretch along Crest Rim in Del Mar gave way March 8. The failure was not a completely unexpected event, said Linda Chisari of the Del Mar Garden Club, the group that maintains the area. When the park was being designed, an engineer predicted this overhanging cliff with a 5-foot undercut would eventually collapse. Most areas of the path were designed a safe distance from the edge of the cliff, but one small area is being reconfigured. Photo by Bianca Kaplanek
