NEW PRINCIPAL

New principal Jane Hartman is surrounded by Jefferson Elementary students Antony Cruz, Esmeralda Estrada, Janett Canseco-Galan, Joanna Rojas and Aaron Hernandez and, bottom row, Jose Ibañez, Alan Vergara and Christian Lopez, after being appointed to head up Jefferson Elementary School, effective July 1. Hartman replaces Carol Van Vooren, who resigned to serve as a professor in the Educational Administration Department at Cal State San Marcos. Hartman joined Carlsbad Unified in 1997 as a teacher at Kelly Elementary. She was selected as the District’s Teacher of the Year in 2001. In 2002, she moved to Calavera Hills Elementary and Middle schools. She was promoted to Jefferson Assistant Principal and International Baccalaureate Programme Coordinator when Jefferson became a candidate IB school in Fall
