Mother’s Day blooms with annual Art and Garden tour

ENCINITAS — The San Dieguito Art Guild is offering its annual Mother’s Day Weekend Art and Garden Tour on May 7 and May 8, and will feature eight homes and gardens along the coast from Del Mar to Encinitas.
Tickets for the self-guided tour are $20. Tickets will be sold at the Off Track Gallery, 937 S. Coast Highway 101, Suite C103; at Art N Soul, 633 S. Coast Highway 101 and also on-line on the guild website, OffTrackGallery.com. Tickets are also available at each home on the day(s) of the tour.
Each home will feature several San Dieguito Art Guild artists and will offer refreshments. Some homes will also have entertainment. All of the homes are in the coastal North County area so are easily accessible in a day. However, tickets are good for both days. All of the art on display will be for sale at prices directly from the artist to you and will include paintings, prints, ceramics, sculpture, glass, textiles, gourds and jewelry.
A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be donated to Sunset High School’s art department.
The tour will include:
— Melissa Anderson home: The legendary Charlie Chaplin had the Anderson home in Encinitas built for his mother in the 1920s.
— Cindy Blumkin home: Old world Spanish charm in a modern age aptly describes the large Ranch-style Blumkin Home in rural Del Mar.
— Michael Cione home: The Cione Home in Solana Beach has tile work of all shapes, sizes, and colors adorning the floors, walls and rooms . The owner created many of the mosaics.
— Diane Deneen home: The Deneens designed and built the home in 1999, with a u-shaped floor plan. The front looks very much like a Spanish courtyard, complete with a beautiful fountain.
— Barbara Jenkins-Lee home: A connection to the Far East characterizes the Jenkins-Lee home in Solana Beach with an Asian garden and three linking Koi ponds.
— Michael Maloney home: The Maloney Home began life as a Camp Pendleton barracks, but a lot has changed since 1937. After physically moving to its present location in Leucadia, the house has undergone a slow but sure change from a 640-square-foot surfer shack in the 1960s to a comforting home today.
— Katie Pelisek home: Practical but creative gardening describes the Pelisek home in Solana Beach. The owner is a landscape designer and the nearly one acre property includes a crescent-shaped “moon garden.”
— Roderick Treece home: The owner describes the Treece Home in Encinitas and its garden as “natural” with lots of cacti and succulents.
