LA MESA — According to cbs8.com, two active duty Marines were arrested Nov. 1 on suspicion of robbing a California Coast Credit Union at gunpoint. The robbery led to a police chase, gunfire and one nearby neighborhood was forced to evacuate.
FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said that Davon Jacques Darden, 23, and Dominique Dontae Lasker, 26, are suspected of robbing the California Coast Credit Union at 8002 La Mesa Blvd. about 2 p.m. Oct. 30.
Both men wore masks and one of them was armed with a handgun, Foxworth said. He added that they jumped over the counter and held up several tellers at gunpoint.
Shortly after the robbery, the getaway car, a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was spotted by a San Diego police sergeant in the 4600 block of Mataro Drive but the suspect fled. Then another officer allegedly spotted Darden and a pursuit ensued, in which the suspect reached for his waistband and the officer was prompted to fire several rounds.
The suspect was not injured and fled the scene, but was later found by SWAT officers and a police dog in the 6300 block of Stanley Avenue, according to Foxworth.
Lasker voluntarily agreed to meet with police detectives and FBI agents and was arrested during the early morning hours Sunday, according to Foxworth.
Both men were expected to be arraigned later Nov. 1 or Nov. 2.
