Man will have to answer for alleged rape of ex-girlfriend

OCEASIDE — A Vista Superior Court judge found enough evidence Dec. 30 to order a man to stand trial for the multiple rapes of his former girlfriend.
Jorge Armando Gonzalez, 26, is charged with one felony count each of forcible rape and false imprisonment in connection with the Oct. 19 rape of Annie G., his ex-girlfriend, in the bathroom of an Oceanside market where the two were employed.
Additionally, Gonzalez is charged with a second felony count of forcible rape stemming from July 29 to Aug. 6 in which prosecutors allege he raped Annie G., who he was dating, three times. The two separated shortly after the summer incident, according to witness testimony.
Following the bind over, Judge Joel Pressman ordered Gonzalez back to court Jan. 15 for an arraignment hearing. If convicted, Gonzalez faces up to 21 years and eight months in prison, Deputy District Attorney Marnie Stein said outside the courtroom.
The prosecutor said her office may add an additional allegation that Gonzalez inflicted great bodily injury on Annie G. during the summer rapes because she became pregnant from one of the incidents.
During an interview after the hearing, Gonzalez’s attorney, Mary Gaines, said she felt for Annie G. who she believes is a very confused woman in need of some counseling.
Throughout Annie G.’s testimony, Gaines said she seemed to be doing damage control for Gonzalez — who she admitted she still kept in contact with — and wanted the charges against him dropped, despite the fact that she remarried her ex-husband a few days prior to the October rape.
Under cross-examination by Gaines, Annie G. said each time Gonzalez raped her she initially told him “no,” but then consented to the sex. She testified she eventually aborted the pregnancy.
Oceanside police Officer Jose Munoz translated a two-page letter Gonzalez wrote to Annie G. following his arrest. “I’m sorry for what happened,“ Gonzalez wrote. “You know I have much attraction for you, and I know it wasn’t the correct thing to do.”
Gonzalez is in custody in lieu of $125,000 bail.
