OCEANSIDE — A jury on Sept. 9 convicted Daniel Paul O’Neal of molestation charges relating to a younger cousin and her friend.
O’Neal, 39, was found guilty of committing three counts of lewd acts on his then-15-year-old second cousin and one count of molestation relating to his cousin’s friend who was 12 at the time, all misdemeanors.
The jury was hung 9-3 in favor of guilt in connection with a second molestation count relating to the 12-year-old girl.
Deputy District Attorney Will Watkins said his office will not retry the charge.
When O’Neal is sentenced Oct. 2, he faces up to one year in jail for each count, Watkins said. Additionally, he will have to register as a sex offender, the prosecutor said.
