Make time for the lima

ENCINITAS — The San Dieguito Heritage Museum will host its second annual Lima Bean Faire from Sept. 24 through Sept. 26. The weekend event celebrates the heritage of Lima Bean farming in the San Dieguito communities and is a fundraising activity for the nonprofit museum.
The fair begins from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24, with an Amateur Talent Night and Tequila Tasting. A light supper will be served also. Tickets are $20. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 is the Lima Bean Cook off Challenge, which pits local chefs, restaurant owners and amateurs against each other as they vie for prizes and honors. Entries include appetizers, soups, salads, main courses and desserts. Children’s activities and craft vendors and a silent auction are also included at the event. Admission is free.
Tasting tickets are $25. which is good for unlimited tasting and a cup of beans to vote for the favorite lima bean recipe. From 1 to 3 p.m. the final day, Sept. 26, will be the Lima Bean Follies variety show, hosted by master magician Joel Ward. The show will feature many entertainers and a dessert will be served.
Tickets for the show are $20. A weekend pass for all events is on sale for $55, $45 for museum members.
