OCEANSIDE — Chabad of Oceanside annual Purim celebration will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. March 20 at the Oceanside Civic Center Library Community Room, 330 N. Coast Highway. The African-themed party invites Jews of diverse affiliations and backgrounds to unite and celebrate Purim together. Attendees are encouraged to dress in African or any other garb.
The event will begin with the traditional reading of the Megilla scroll of Esther, which depicts the story of Purim. Simultaneously participants will view a multi-media slide show illustrating the historical events of Purim. To drown out the name of the wicked adversary Haman, children will enthusiastically jump on gigantic bubble wrap, shake graggers (noisemakers) and drum on African drums.
All in attendance will enjoy a kosher African cuisine. A highlight of the party will be the African drum circle led by John Clouder of the Drums of Fire.
The party is open to the public and all are welcome, regardless of background or affiliation.
The cost is $10 per person and $36 per family. To register and/or to find out more about Chabad, call (760) 806-7765 or visit JewishOceanside.com.
