‘Jru’ the tree sitter busted on drug charges

ENCINITAS — Andrew Watkins, a man who earned a reputation for his tree protest at Orpheus Park in Leucadia, was recently arrested at Moonlight Beach on drug charges, according to Sgt. Jack Reynolds of the Encinitas Sheriff’s station.
A deputy patrolling the area contacted Watkins and a group of friends at 10:50 p.m. on April 13. Watkins initially walked away from the officer, and was ordered to return. He then began yelling profanities at the officer. Watkins did not cooperate with the officer’s efforts to conduct a field sobriety test, Reynolds said. He was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and was booked into the Vista jail.
Watkins staged a protest at Orpheus Park in late January, when he perched in a Tipuana tipu in an effort to save the tree from city chainsaws. The tree was cut down Feb. 9 after Watkins abandoned his post, believing the city would consider letting it stand.

I dont think so Dave. It sounds like the guy was f’d up on whatever, and the cops busted him. Thats all. I doubt the city has a radar out on jru.

I have a feeling Jru picked a fight with the wrong people. He should know better than to be at Moonlight afterhours doing whatever it was he was doing. Still, I have a hunch the city got their revenge.
