DEL MAR — Vigilucci’s Beach Bocce World Championship XXXIII will take place at Dog Beach in Del Mar (just west of the Del Mar Race Track) July 13. The tournament will crown world champions in four divisions; Men’s Open, Men’s Intermediate, Women’s and Mixed.This year, a record 390 two-player teams will be competing on 78 courts. The championship, which is a one-day tournament played in two phases – a Round Robin and Championship Single Elimination, will start at approximately 8 a.m.
The main beneficiary of this annual championship is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. A second recipient of money raised has always been the Del Mar Lifeguard Association. According to the tournament’s co-founder, John Manson, the hope is to raise a record $100,000 plus.
