Internet safety for workshop offered to parents

OCEANSIDE — Community Lutheran Church is hosting a free Keeping Kids Safe: An Internet & Mobile Safety Workshop at 12:30 p.m. July 13, for parents only.
Delivered by Marsha Leichner, a certified Internet & Child Safety Advocate, the 45-minute workshop addresses cyber-safety issues impacting today’s youth and strategies for effectively dealing with these challenges.
Statistics show that one in five U.S. teenagers has already received an unwanted sexual solicitation online and cyber bullying and sexting have reached record levels. According to a Cox Communications Teen Online & Wireless Safety Survey, 38 percent of teens have experience with cyber bullying and 20 percent have engaged in some form of sexting.
Keeping Kids Safe: An Internet & Mobile Safety Workshop utilizes the latest statistics, resources, videos, and expert tips to empower attending parents with:
— A clearer understanding of the issues facing digital children.
— The resources they need to communicate with their youngsters about making safer decisions,
— Information about digital tools designed to help parents keep their children safe when they use social networking and mobile phones.
If you are interested in hosting a free workshop for your school, church or organization, contact Marsha Leichner at (760) 470-7368 or by e-mail at [email protected]. The church is at 4507 Mission Ave.
