Horizon Prep puts on Christmas spectacular

RANCHO SANTA FE — The church sanctuary at Horizon Christian Fellowship was filled with ringing bells, costumed choirs, video memories and proud parents and grandparents Dec. 19. Under the direction of Camille Hastings, 271 students from Horizon Prep, in first through eighth grades, took to the stage for a Christmas Spectacular. And what a spectacle it was.
The new concert band opened the festivities under the direction of Lynn Francale. “At a time when many schools are cutting back, Horizon Prep is expanding,” Hastings told the crowd. Some of the band members had only been practicing with their instruments for as little as six weeks, but when the band performed “Jingle Bells” everyone immediately recognized the tune!
Throughout the musical program, students dressed as shepherds and angels shared prophecy fulfilments. There were also video segments dispersed throughout the program where sixth-grade students shared “favorite Christmas memories” with the camera.
In a clever medley, “Jingle Bell Rock” was paired with “Rock Around the Clock.” The sixth-grade singers paid homage to the 1950s. The girls sang the first song and the boys, dressed as 1950 “Greasers,” had fun with the latter song.
At the end, the entire school asked the audience to join them to sing “Silent Night.” Proud parents and grandparents then came up front to snap a few photos of this momentous occasion.
Best of all, after the Christmas Spectacular, classes were dismissed for the upcoming holidays. Students return to classes Jan. 5.
