Help for teen homeless

ENCINITAS — The city of Encinitas’ Youth Commission has begun its 2012 Teen Backpack Project. The commission members are seeking backpacks to give to homeless, transitionally homeless, displaced or at-risk teens. The goal is to provide the Community Resource Center with 50 backpacks filled with essentials and other items teens might find useful. Backpacks and supplies will be collected at various drop-off locations around the city including City Hall at 505 S. Vulcan Ave., the Encinitas Library at 540 Cornish Drive, the Cardiff Library at 2081 Newcastle Ave., the Encinitas Community Center at 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive and Encinitas Fire Stations, from Nov. 5 through Dec. 7.

A donation of a new or unused backpack, toiletries, school supplies, gift cards, package snacks and reusable water bottles will help out a homeless teenager in the community. For more information regarding the Teen Backpack Project, contact Vicki Rubenstein, Recreation Supervisor at (760) 633-2758.
