A Halloween costume party for dogs and their owner will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31 on the Del Mar Shores Park baseball field on Ninth Street between Camino del Mar and Stratford Court. Chairwoman Gale Darling said prizes will be awarded for costumes, including most original, funniest, the most in character, scariest, and best-themed-for-dog-and-owner. Additionally, costume contest winners will choose prizes from artwork donated by artist Fran Carter and gift baskets from Dexter’s Deli. Dog treat bags also will be distributed. A charge of $25 per person includes appetizers, wine, beer and entry fee. The event will benefit the Campaign for Del Mar Shores, dedicated to acquiring recreational, education and open space in the Del Mar area. The campaign for Del Mar Shores has raised $5.2 million for purchase of the Del Mar Shores property, with contributions of an additional $3.5 million needed to retire the city’s loan.
