Future teachers can try for scholarships

COAST CITIES — Scholarship applications for school year 2013 – 2014 have been delivered to North County high schools by the California Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. of North San Diego County.The club, comprised of Palomar Division 63, North San Diego County Division 45 and Avocado Division 81, provides scholarships for future teachers graduating from North San Diego County high schools.

The scholarships are available for graduating seniors who will attend a California public community college or state university (CSU or UC system) in the coming year. Students wishing to apply for a scholarship from the California Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Foundation can obtain an application through the appropriate office in their high school or go online and download one at classjump.comretiredteacherscholarshipfoundationnsdc. The deadline for applications is March 11.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, scholastic record, community service, work experience, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Scholarships of $1,000 are awarded to students attending junior college; those attending a CSU or UC school receive $1,500.

Retired teachers, members of California Retired Teachers
