Ellen McGrath-Thorpe, president of the Carlsbad Garden Club, and David Root, floral designer and lecturer, deliver bouquets to Camp Pendleton, as part of efforts by six North County garden clubs which take turns delivering 15 floral arrangements once a month to Camp Pendleton’s Wounded Warriors. Dos Gringos, a wholesale florist in Vista, donates the flowers for all of these deliveries. Root discovered that the Mission Hills Garden Club was doing this at Balboa Naval Hospital, and wanted to give the Camp Pendleton soldiers the same symbol of appreciation for their service and sacrifice. Joined recently by the Del Mar Garden Club, they have since added deliveries to Fisher House for the Wounded Warriors’ families. Courtesy photo
