ENCINITAS — Break ground and break bread at the Flora Vista School Garden Dig In potluck and work day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25. Bring a dish to share and a pair of work gloves.
“School gardens break ground on local projects to help create a world where food is good for you, good for the grower and good for the planet, and then break bread at the end of the day to celebrate,” said Mim Michelove, PTA garden chairwoman.
Flora Vista needs families and friends to help prepare the raised beds in our edible garden to support our Grow for Charity program. Flora Vista’s school garden offers all students the opportunity to grow food in its interactive, educational garden.
Children can learn math, science, nutrition, history and literature, sample all of their bounty and then donate several pounds of fresh produce to a local food bank. This year we hope to provide more than ever to our food pantry, desperate for fresh foods.
Children of all ages are empowered to make the world a better place for their neighbors in need.
