Encinitas resident Debbie Wakabayashi’s inspiration for Salmon Paws came from her own dogs, Zoey and Hudson. Eighteen months ago, Wakabayashi started up Salmon Paws, a family-owned and operated company that makes the product from 100 percent wild Alaskan salmon dog and cat treats. In North County, the treats can be found at Daily Pet (Carmel Valley), Cardiff Animal Hospital, Pet Nutrition Center, Mary’s Tack & Feed, Dexter’s Deli, DogMania, Wesco Pet Supplies, Dirty Dogs, Muttropolis, Three Dog Bakery, Dogs In Suds and Grateful Dog. Wakabayashi wanted to give them an all-natural treat that didn’t have any fillers and preservatives. Ten percent of all Internet sales proceeds of Salmon Paws is donated to the Lange Foundation in Los Angeles, a no-kill shelter that runs solely on donations.
