Fashion show raises funds for women’s health programs

CARLSBAD — The La Costa Resort and Spa was home recently to a debut fundraiser, Fashion That Heals, presented by the Tri- City Foundation.

More than 150 guests viewed a live fashion show while raising monies and awareness regarding women’s health issues.

Saks Fifth Avenue of South Coast Plaza sent down female and male models donning summer and fall collections.

“The Fashion that Heals event was the inaugural fashion show that is held in conjunction with the Mercury Insurance Tennis Open that Tri-City Medical sponsors each year,” said event co-chair Valerie Lindholm. “It was created as a way to inspire women’s health and wellness programs at the hospital.”

Monies from the event will be filtered back to benefit women’s programs, such as breast and cardiovascular health and wellness, offered at Tri-City Medical Center.

Bridget Naso of KUSI News served as emcee while Clint Bell was auctioneer.

Dawn Hall-Cunneen, also event co-chair, said that the theme of healthy living was prominent. This included managing stress, eating healthy and exercising regularly.

“In addition, the event included a special presentation on the prevention, early detection and treatment of disease through the use of global healing traditions by Mimi Guarneri, M.D., renowned cardiologist and national leader in the field of integrative medicine,” Hall-Cunneen said.

Lindholm described the fashion show as a New York-style event with an elevated center runway with rows of seating along the sides.

“The event was held outside overlooking the golf course, mountains and the beautiful grounds of the resort,” she said. “Our sponsor Saks Fifth Avenue of South Coast Plaza brought in many of the latest fashions that had just arrived.”

Both co-chairs conveyed a heartfelt thanks to Saks Fifth Avenue of South Coast Plaza, La Costa Resort and Spa, McFarland Productions, and Beck, Ellman and Heald.
