Fashion and food at ‘Friend’-ly fundraiser

A runway fashion show, designer boutique, wine tasting and luncheon on the lawn were all presented in the name of charity at The Country Friends 2008 Art of Fashion fundraiser Sept. 18 at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
Proceeds from the 53rd annual event will benefit the Burn Institute, a health agency founded in 1972 dedicated to reducing burn injuries and deaths through fire and burn prevention education, burn survivor support programs and funding burn care research and treatment.
For the fourth consecutive year, South Coast Plaza sponsored the fashion show, which featured designers such as Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta and Valentino. Kimberly Hunt, news anchor for KGTV Channel 10, served as the mistress of ceremonies. More than 400 people attended the event, which is considered one of the largest outdoor fashion shows in the country.
The Country Friends, a philanthropic organization founded in 1954 by a group of Rancho Santa Fe women, raises funds for human care agencies that help women, children and the elderly in San Diego County. As part of its fundraising efforts, The Country Friends also runs a consignment shop in Rancho Santa Fe.
